Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) health activities cover a wide variety of topics, being the Biotech initiative its flagship: a stable interdisciplinary environment grouping UPM research groups with high expertise and qualified infrastructure to address major challenges in Biomedicine and Health.

UPM is the coordinator of INFINITy project and following we present their team.

Silvia de los Ríos – Project Manager

M.Sc. Silvia de los Ríos Pérez has a Telecommunication Engineer degree, specialty in Telematics, by the Carlos III University of Madrid, with a Master in Business Administration, by the Complutense University of Madrid. She started her professional career as researcher in Vodafone Spain Foundation, working on accessible and inclusive technological solutions for people with disabilities.

Silvia is currently senior researcher at Life Supporting Technologies (LifeSTech) research group, where she has extended her areas of interest and expertise covering a wide range of applications of information and communication technologies (ICT) to the social sector, mainly social inclusion, active and healthy ageing and smart culture. She has collaborated in several R&I projects, participated in numerous conferences and workshops for dissemination of projects results and she is the author of several scientific papers in national and international conferences. disabilities.

Rebeca García – Scientific Leader

Dr. Rebeca García has a professional Engineer degree in Telecommunications Engineering and a Magister of Biomedical Engineering degree (with honours). In 2017, she received the PhD degree in Biomedical Engineering (with honours) from UPM. She has worked on several funded R&D projects related to ICT for cognitive issues (e.g. MCI, Alzheimer Disease, etc.).

She is currently a senior researcher at LifeSTech group at UPM where she has worked on affective computing (AC) and Virtual Reality (VR) environments for e-inclusion and AmI applications. She has collaborated in several R&D projects dealing with ICT in the areas of e-Inclusion and e-Health. Her areas of expertise are e-health, Telemedicine, Chronic Disease management solutions specifically for Alzheimer’s disease, VR environments for e-health solutions, and VR cognitive training applications for MCI and Alzheimer’s patients. She is the author of several articles published in national and international high impact journals.

Miguel Páramo – Product Developer

M.Sc. Miguel Páramo Castrillo is a senior software engineer with more than 12 years of experience on project design, implementation and troubleshooting. He is a computer scientist (5 years degree) by Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and M.Sc. in Cybersecurity. He holds various awards for his programming skills and innovative ideas and has been working and researching on applied IT for accessibility, being expert on Human Machine Interaction and User Experience.

María Fernanda Cabrera – Activity Leader

Dr. Maria F. Cabrera is Telecommunication Engineer, with a PhD in Biomedical Engineering, working as Associate Professor of bioengineering at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. She is the Innovation Director of Life Supporting Technologies (LifeSTech) research group and the Financial Director of the universAAL IoT Coallition.

Besides her teaching activities, she works as project coordinator and technical manager in different EU and national research funded projects. She has acted as project coordinator, technical or quality manager in 12 research projects funded by the European Commission. She has participated in over 30 EU projects so far. Her field of expertise covers a wide range of applications in the domains of the ICT applied to different sectors like health and social inclusion, including personalisation of services, data interoperability, semantics, and accessibility of ICT. She is the author of more than 100 scientific papers in national and international journals. In March 2018, she co-founded the Biomedical and Health Informatics IEEE women in engineering committee.
